In China, as elsewhere, the flags and governments change shape, but old family plutocracies often remain in control.

NOTE added 2015.May.04: This article first appeared in 2002, and due to skillful outside pirate-hacking had contents downloaded, altered, and re-posted on two known occasions (which would require access to passwords, access to government surveillance data, or other ability to impersonate), possible indicators of the invasive influence of the Kuomintang mafia (fused with the infamous "China Lobby" in Washington, and now in economic control of most of China after 'reforms' and moving more and more into the US economy and infrastructure) to alter information about their history, activities, and increasingly powerful impact on American politics and infrastructure, including via pseudo-religious "faith based" and other wealthy political psy-ops cults (incl Moonies, Falun Gong, other cults). The article is again being updated in 2015, with hacker modifications removed, and new information added to clarify the often very subtle, but mammoth and recently increasing, role of Chinese mega-money on US and global politics. T V Soong's birth date of 1894.Dec.04 is indicated in the Encyclopedia Britannica, in HL Boorman's Biographical Dictionary of Republican China, in the records of the long-acknowledged Dean of American Astrology Marc Edmund Jones with a time of 04h00, and in other academic references.  [Note that an alternate birth date for TV Soong of 1891.Dec.04 has been posted on the internet (incl by Wikipedia writers) with some other cursory mention, but it does not match up with dates in biographies of the Soong family, whereas 1894 does -- the 1891 date may have originally been circulated for purposes of political secrecy.]

THE question often arises of just what astrological indicators are pertinent to wealth.  Traditional astrologers, relying heavily on signs and houses, and the age-old concept of "rulerships" have often assumed that Taurus 'ruled' the second house and Venus 'ruled' Taurus, so therefore Venus was the money planet.  This often does not match up with correlations found by midpoint astrologers who set out to adhere to scientific standards for astrology and dispense with parroted historical assumptions that are often related to often quite different historical socio-economic realities that no longer exist. People, things, society, and conventions clearly change substantially within a single lifetime, moreso over generations, and even moreso over centuries. Most experienced and published midpoint astrologers have found that while Venus may correlate with personal attachment to objects, aesthetic valuables (jewelry, etc), or to business contracts or partnerships, it is not always a primary indicator of financial matters as a whole in today's socioeconomic realities (now more focused on paper currency, banking factors, and distant exchanges).  Historical astrological references, especially those centuries-old, were often written in the context of radically different socio-economic, cultural, ideological realties that may or may not be directly relevant to today, to varying degrees.

Twentieth- and Twenty-first century midpoint astrologers resumed a long-lost thread of unbiased scientific scrutiny of astrological method, particularly in Europe among those who followed the path of astronomer/astrologer Johannes Kepler to sort out the accumulated historical nonsense in astrology and keep its effective methods. The more science-focused astrology schools and organizations generally lay aside the sentimental or sometimes almost religious-like assumptions of astrological history and shifted to seeking what the planets alone indicate here and now, via systematic study, observation, and verification of the validity or non-validity of handed-down historical claims of centuries past. Among those following this trend in the 20th century were the Kepler Circle and the Hamburg School astrologers in the early 20th century, followed by the Cosmobiologists, Uranian Astrologers, and the Gauquelins, either in their own way, in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The discovery of Pluto in 1930 triggered substantial new insights into wealth indicators in astrology charts, and that general period coincided with a revolution in astrological methodology, at least in Europe. This took hold in the USA to a lesser but substantial degree, a bit moreso in Australia and New Zealand, due in part to the values and priorities of the various astrological organizations and publishing houses.  Efforts diverted to preserving and perpetuating historical methods have often led to the obscuring, or even irrational aversion to, the advances and profound significance of 20th century European scientifically-oriented astrology and its striving to develop scientific standards despite rejection by the conservative anti-astrology-biased scientific establishment. Research and publishing was often dictated or influenced by funding stipulations. Preservation of questionable astrological traditions, and an anti-science viewpoint advocated by popular astrology organizations and publications has provided more fuel for anti-astrology biases.

Back to astrology technique: by using mathematically-precise midpoints and narrow orbs for significant angular relationships long called "aspects" in classical astrology (or "clusters", 'angles", or "angular relationships" by Uranian and other midpoint-oriented astrologers today) it was found that Jupiter was a primary money indicator, and that the Jupiter.Pluto combination was often a focal point in terms of large-scale wealth.  This was pointed out not only by the midpoint-focused astrologers in the Hamburg School who went on to align with Uranian Astrology and Cosmobiology (as amply illustrated in Reinhold Ebertin's Rapid and Reliable Analysis). Uranian astrologers and earlier Hamburg School astrologers also found the transneptunian point Apollon to correlate with, among other things, commerce.

It is interesting to look at the charts of people and dynasties of today and the last century that have had a much stronger impact on globalist economics than most people realize, through massive accumulated wealth, and to study how they are sometimes rooted in old (some imperial) dynasties lingering quietly throughout the centuries that perpetuate socio-economic polarization and gentrification.

One chart to look at is that of a person who was once described as "the wealthiest man in the world". The average English-language reader might guess such names as the mega-wealthy John D Rockefeller, Howard Hughes, Henry Ford, or the Austrian Habsburg Kaisers, but TV Soong once controlled greater wealth than any of them.  TV Soong was at one time the largest real estate proprietor in China, the most populous (and among the most heavily gentrified) nation on Earth ruled economically and politically by the Four Major Families (Soong, Chiang, Kung, Chen).  He was the founder of the government-backed Central Bank of China during a period of radical economic gentrification/polarization, and was a major funder of the plutocracy-coopted Kuomintang party, over which his family held sway, overtly or covertly, since the early 20th century.  During his lifetime, TV Soong, son of Charlie Hanchao Soong (also spelled Sung, Song, Shun, depending on dialect and transliteration system), held the offices of Premier of China, national Finance Minister of China, and Foreign Minister of China.  One of his sisters married the first president of Republican China (Sun Yatsen), another of his sisters married the second President Republican China (Chiang Kaishek). And when his party lost power on the Chinese mainland to the Communist Party in 1949, he took many of his vast financial assets and relocated to the USA, to San Francisco, some of his sisters to New York, and key members of his state cabinet to Washington DC to launch massive lobbying campaigns still continuing today and pushing far beyond issues of who controls the Chinese mainland and its vast assets.  T V Soong  was also known as Tsu Ven Soong, Sung Tzuwen, or Song Ziwen, depending on Chinese transliteration convention and (reversible) name order.  His family financial dynasty has regained increasing influence in mainland China during recent financial and political overtures between the Republican China government on Taiwan and the now nominally-communist 'reformed' Peoples Republic government in Beijing re-opened to private investment in the mainland Chinese infrastructure.

Key Kuomintang officials moving to the USA became actively involved in US Republican Party politics, and even Democractic Party politics in some cases, and they long gained American favor by making Asian anti-communism their favorite and self-interested political theme, wherever the theme of the Christianization of China did not gain American sympathy and alignment with their political objectives.  In 1949, Charlie Soong's nephew (TV Soong's brother-in-law) President Chiang Kai-shek (aka Chiang Chiehshih or Chiang Jiexi) moved his government machinery to Taiwan around 1949, and much Kuomintang power and money behind him transferred to Hong Kong and Singapore as well as to North America.  The Kuomintang actively lobbied for American military intervention in Korea as well as Vietnam/Indochina, fanning the flames of the Korea and Vietnam wars, and profiting from them.  The influence of the Soong/Chiang dynasties on American and global finance and politics has by no means been insignificant, even if subtly diplomatic or diplomatically subtle, per the prescription and central political tenet of Sun Tzu: "Be so subtle that you are invisible, so mysterious that you are intangible, and then you will control your rivals' fate", i.e. traditional Chinese guerrilla politics not unlike those used in the Vietnam/Indochina war. This tenet may have far more significance for Soong family influence in the USA than is even marginally recognized, despite TV's sister May-ling Soong's extensive and slightly more conspicuous campaigns that lay infrastructure for the increasingly wealthy and powerful US China Lobby.

Let's look at the chart of TV Soong, whose family financial dynasty revolved largely around Shanghai and later Taipei, to see what planetary configurations explain his financial power and influence, and how the local Ascendants and Meridians of the key cities involved describe his influence manifest there.  This issue is now particularly critical as Vulkanus global power aligns in 2015 with the Nanjing-Shanghai-Quemoy-Taipei region as well as Qingdao and Chengde to the north.

The birth data for TV Soong indicated in Marc Edmund Jones's Sabian Symbols in Astrology, which also includes data for several key early 20th century Chinese political figures, gives the date of 1894.Dec.04, confirmed in Encyclopedia Britannica, Barnes & Noble Encyclopedia, Hoover Institute biographies, the family biography data in Seagrave's Soong Dynasty, and other academic references.  While Jones did not give his data source, he indicates that Soong was born in Kiangsu province, which then included Shanghai, at either 04h00 or with an 09SC25 Ascendant (04h14 LMT).  To take no chances, we will first assume that the time is rounded off to the hour, and note that traditional time conventions still used in China in 1894 divided the day into 12 "hour" segments, each equivalent to western 2-hour periods, and named for animals, such as "hour of the monkey" or "hour of the dog", etc.  04h00 would be in the middle of the "hour of the tiger" (03h00 to 05h00).  As a rule, the MC moves approximately 1 degree every 4 minutes; thus the MC could deviate from the MC at 04h00 by as much as 15 degrees in either direction if the given time was based only on the traditional Chinese system. Either LMT or Shanghai Mean Time was in effect in 1894, and there is virtually no difference between the two in this case. In any case, we will first take note of pictures on Soong's planetary axes and treat the MC and AS as highly speculative.   We will still get much valuable and somewhat accurate information from the Moon if we allow for 0°30' of leeway in either direction, since at the Moon moves at approximately 12° per day, or 30' per hour).

In 21st century Uranian Astrology, we investigate the Sun's midpoint axis as a primary indicator of central life purpose and focus of vital energy, when evaluating an individual's chart. Using 16th harmonic midpoints, the Sun alone indicates many salient characteristics of the individual.

Setting the dial pointer to Soong's Sun, and using a 1° orb to either side for primary cluster influence, or 2° orb for secondary influence, we find Sun clustered with Jupiter at one of the 22.5° arrows, pointing to the central role of money in TV's (and his father's) life.  We do, interestingly, find both Venus and Pluto within 1° of the Sun, in the 16th harmonic.  As we investigate further, we will see how much, and in what ways, Venus relates to money and finances even if it is not the primary financial indicator.

The VE/PL midpoint falls on the Sun axis, partaking of both Sun and Jupiter energies, as does the AP/VU axis (commercial influence), and the MO/AP axis if he were indeed born near 04h00.  Uranian astrologers normally assume that Venus correlates with complementation, partnerships, agreements, and issues of equity in exchange.  This, while not necessarily indicating money per se, does relate to business agreements, partnerships, courtesies, and equity issues.  There is an indicator that his finances would be very strongly intertwined with his marriage, since SU=JU=VE/PL, and with all female family members =MOVU/AP if 04h00 is near accurate.  The Moon, in a physical sense, has to do both with feminine personalities and the public (the people themselves, as opposed to Aries Point, which is "out in public" as a place).  Vulkanus is consolidated power, sway, clout, influence, politics, and public administration.  The Sun describes our central life purpose and identity, and we see that therefore that TV Soong was a money man, and very intensely involved with his very influential family (noting that CU=VU, opposite on the 90 dial).  The 04h00 chart indicates the influence, intensity, and strength of women in his life, and we know already that two of his sisters married Republican Chinese Presidents, correlating with his Moon (traditional feminine issues/personalities in one's life) is clustered with Vulkanus, the planet of political power, as well as strength, intensity of energy, and influence.  His Sun also triggers the ME/UR axis, indicating that he was a charismatic and stimulating communicator.  As UR and VU are both highly electrical and charismatic planets (as noted in the Uranian Mandala), his MO.ME.VU cluster further underlines his magnetic persuasiveness and intensity as a communicator; and SU=MOVU/AP indicates that this influence (VU) was widespread (AP) and even potentially international (MO.AP), as Apollon is the planet of expansion, commerce, and long distances (moreso than Jupiter was traditionally thought to be).  SU=AR/VU alone indicates Soong's potential for personal global political influence. His mother, about which relatively little is written, may have been more influential than is commonly assumed.

To see how Soong's central life purpose (Sun) related to the world in general (Aries Point), we look for Aries Point along the Sun axis, and find SU=JU=AR/MOVU.  The AR.MO.VU combination verifies political sway over the world as a whole, and Jupiter on this axis indicates that this occurs through financial matters.  The indicators of a wealthy and politically influential man (and family) could hardly be more clear, even with an imprecise birthtime... this highly pertinent information uncovered already from looking only at the one central axis of vitality and life in the individual birth chart by using precise midpoint configurations.

(Those only casually familiar with Uranian astrology often seem to think that it yields only supplemental information and marginal details... because they also often use midpoints only as an adjunct technique, or look only at lower harmonics.  A system of prioritization is essential for utilizing the Uranian factors in a focused and efficient manner for clearly salient information.)

Remembering that the Sun, Moon, MC, AS, Lunar Node, and Aries are the main points in the chart that give the planetary energies a more personal or worldly manifest context, we take note of the midpoints on the Sun axis that involve these points.  We do not yet know the MC or AS with precision, so we set them aside for the moment).  Remember also that when we read a planetary axis, we consider planets clustered with the axial planet to be read as part of the midpoint structures and also relate directly to the axial planet.  The only planet clustered with the Sun within 1°, in the 16th harmonic (22.5° mode) is Jupiter; and the Moon, clustered with Vulkanus, forms a midpoint with Apollon on the Sun axis.  In summary, this means that JU=AP/VU is a midpoint structure that indicates how the Moon (emotional and public disposition, and female energies) manifests on Soong's Sun axis (vitality and central purpose) -- thus a very key midpoint configuration in his chart.  The Brummund Rulebook interprets this combination as:

JU.AP.VU (from Brummund Rulebook)

* lucky - contented - active - enterprising - venturesome - open-minded - quick-witted - keenly observant - experienced with money - generous - has business acumen - self-confident - conscious of fairness - seeks to excel - competent at commerce or academics -- arbitrary - unlawful - domineering - autocratic - extravagant - wasteful - overbearing

* Extraordinary good luck - Many successful activities - Satisfaction relating to increases and work - Experience with major financial transactions - Major earnings - Rapid increases relating to profits - Work in economics - Athletic notoriety - Actions relating to financial gains - Increase of influence relating to money - Successful efforts relating to peace - Fights relating to freedom and justice

These interpretations alone indicate much of what we know about the life of TV Soong from the most credible published biographies.  Such clear and central descriptions were not always yielded by any systematic methodology in the early experimental stages of Hamburg/Uranian Astrology that retained traditional methods (often for sentimental reasons or out of inertia).  However, since the methods have been refined and developed by Ruth Brummund and Ludwig Rudolph starting largely in the 1970s, we begin to find key midpoint factors readily, sorting them out from the plethora of techniques used historically in Hamburg School analyses that more closely resemble classical astrology.

The most effective way to explore Uranian techniques is through use of the 'Special Uranian' program developed by Aureas Software in Paris.  (Click here for further information.)
