MONEY & ASTROLOGY

ELUCIDATED VIA URANIAN METHODS

THE question of just what astrological indicators are pertinent to wealth often arises.  Traditional astrologers, relying strongly on signs and houses, and in some cases concepts such as "rulerships", advocated quite simply that the second ruled money, Taurus ruled the second house, Venus ruled Taurus, and therefore Venus was the money planet.

Twentieth- and Twenty-first century midpoint astrologers were among the first to point us in another, more reliable direction.  Midpoint astrologers, generally, lay aside the sentimental assumptions of astrological history and simply seek to see what the planets alone indicate here and now.  By using mathematically-precise midpoints and narrow orbs for significant angular relationships, called "aspects" in classical astrology, and "clusters" by Uranian astrologers today, they found that Jupiter was a primary money indicator, and that the Jupiter.Pluto combination was often a focal point in terms of large-scale wealth.  This was pointed out not only in Hamburg School literature, but also in derivative Cosmobiological texts (and amply illustrated in Reinhold Ebertin's Rapid and Reliable Analysis).  Uranian astrologers, advocates of the more recent developments in Hamburg School astrology, have long been using transneptunian planetary factors in their work (even before the Hubble Space telescope began verifying beyond doubt the presence of transneptunian planetary bodies), and would further consider the transneptunian Apollon to indicate large quantities or abundance, and to relate to commerce.

As today's global socio-political system revolves more and more around financial issues and accumulated wealth, it is interesting to look at the charts of people of today and of the last century who most probably have a much stronger impact on today's world economy than most people realize, through massive wealth.

The first individual whose chart we look at was once described as "the wealthiest man in the world" according to the 2002 edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.   You might guess such names as John D Rockefeller, Howard Hughes, or Henry Ford.   The list most people would compile would likely never mention this person's name.   This man, however, was at one time the largest real estate proprietor in the most populous nation on Earth, the founder of the government-backed Central Bank in his native country, and, coincidentally, the major funder of the political party that held sway over that country for 38 years of the 20th century.  During that time he held the office of national Finance Minister, and later of Foreign Minister.  One of his daughters married the first president of the first Republican government in that country, and another of his daughters married the second and last president of the Republican government in that country. He was also the primary financial backer of the political party that put both these presidents into power.  And when his party lost power to the Communist Party in 1949, he took his money and relocated to the USA, in San Francisco, California.  The man's name was T V Soong (also known as Tsu Ven Soong, or Sung Tzuwen).

Other members of the South-China based Kuomintang party also came to the USA, many settling in Washington DC, hoping to persuade the American government to help them to restore the Kuomintang party to power in China.  Key Kuomintang officials became actively involved in US Republican Party politics.  Soong's son-in-law, President Chiang Kai-shek (Chiang Ching-kuo) moved his government setup to Taiwan, and much Kuomintang power and money transferred to Hong Kong and Singapore.  The Kuomintang actively supported American war efforts soon thereafter at the borders of China, in Korea, from 1950 to 1953, and then in Vietnam, taking over after French withdrawal in 1954 and lasting for over 20 years, until 1975, as China continued to be a major focus of American foreign policy.  The influence of Soong and his family on international finance and politics has by no means been insignificant.

Let's look at the chart of T V Soong to see what planetary configurations explain his financial power and influence, and how the local Ascendants and Meridians of the key cities involved describe his influence manifest there.  The birth data was found in Marc Edmund Jones's Sabian Symbols in Astrology, and could not be found elsewhere.  Jones did not give his data source, and indicates that Soong was born in Kiangsu, which is a province (now spelled Jiangsu in Pinyin romanization).  The Encyclopaedia Britannica and Barnes & Noble Encyclopedia both indicate the city of Shanghai, which was part of Kiangsu province before it was given local autonomy, as his birthplace.  Whether this is the case here or not, is left to question.  To take no chances, we will first assume that the time is rounded off to the hour, and was recorded in the traditional method.  Chinese birth times were traditionally recorded as "hour of the snake" or "hour of the rat", etc, and such an "hour" actually corresponded to a 2-hour period.  04h00 would be in the middle of the "hour of the tiger" (03h00 to 05h00).  As a rule, the MC moves approximately 1 degree every 4 minutes; thus the MC could deviate from the given time by as much as 15 degrees either direction.  In any case, we will first take note of pictures on Soong's planetary axes and treat the MC and AS as highly speculative.   We will still get much valuable and accurate information, since among the planets, only the Moon will vary significantly in a 2-hour period.  (At approximately 12° per day, or 30' per hour, Soong's Moon could vary by plus or minus 30 minutes of arc, or ½°).

Traditional astrology often leads us to believe the Venus, as ruler of Taurus, as ruler of the second house, is the ruler of money.

Midpoint astrologers, however, find repeatedly that Jupiter is more likely to be a money planet, and that great wealth is often indicated by a Jupiter.Pluto or a  Jupiter.Apollon combination.

In 21st century Uranian Astrology, we investigate the Sun's midpoint axis as a primary indicator of central life purpose and focus of vital energy, when evaluating an individual's chart.

Setting the dial pointer to Soong's Sun, and using a 1° orb to either side, we find Sun clustered with Jupiter at one of the 22.5° arrows.  We do also, interestingly, find both Venus and Pluto within 1° of the Sun, in the 16th harmonic.  As we investigate further, we will see how much, and in what ways, Venus relates to money and finances.

The VE/PL midpoint falls on the Sun axis, partaking of both Sun and Jupiter energies, as do the MO/AP and AP/VU axes.   Uranian astrologers normally assume that Venus has to do with complementation, partnerships, agreements, and issues of equity in exchange.  This, while not necessarily indicating money per se, does relate to business agreements, partnerships, and courtesies and equity issues.  We would think thus that his finances would be very strongly intertwined with his marriage, wife, and all female family members, since SU=JU=VE/PL=MOVU/AP.  The Moon, in a physical sense, has to do both with women and the public (the people themselves, as opposed to Aries Point, which is "out in public" as a place).  Vulkanus is consolidated power, sway, clout, influence, politics, and public administration.  The Sun describes our central life purpose and identity, and we see that T V Soong was a man of his money, and very intensely involved with his very intense and influential family.  The chart indicates the influence, intensity, and strength of women in his life, and we know already that two of his daughters married Presidents of the Republic of China: his Moon is clustered with Vulkanus, the planet of political power, as well as strength, intensity of energy, and influence.  His Sun also triggers the ME/UR axis, indicating that he was a charismatic and stimulating communicator.  As UR and VU are both highly electrical and charismatic planets (per the Uranian Mandala), his MO.ME.VU cluster further underlines his magnetic persuasiveness; and MOVU/AP indicates that this influence was widespread and even potentially international, as Apollon is the planet of expansion, commerce, and long distances (moreso than Jupiter was traditionally thought to be).

To see how Soong's central life purpose (Sun) related to the world in general (Aries Point), we look for Aries Point along the Sun axis, and find SU=JU=AR/MOVU.   The AR.MO.VU combination verifies political sway over the general public, and Jupiter on this axis indicates that this occurs through financial matters.  The indicators of a wealth and politically influential man could hardly be more clear, even with an imprecise birthtime... this highly pertinent information uncovered already from looking only at the one central axis of vitality and life in the individual birth chart.

(Critics of Uranian astrology seem to think that it yields tangential details and marginal information... because they don't apply it properly.  A system of prioritization is essential for utilizing the Uranian factors in a focused and efficient manner.)

Remembering that the Sun, Moon, MC, AS, Lunar Node, and Aries are the main points in the chart that give the planetary energies a personal or worldly manifest context, we take note of the midpoints on the Sun axis that involve these points.  We do not yet know the MC or AS with precision, so we set them aside for the moment).  Remember also that when we read a planetary axis, we will also consider planets clustered with the axial planet to be read as part of the midpoint structures and also relate directly to the axial planet.  The only planet clustered with the Sun within 1°, in the 16th harmonic (22.5° mode) is Jupiter; and the Moon, clustered with Vulkanus, forms a midpoint with Apollon on the Sun axis.  In summary, this means that JU=AP/VU is a midpoint structure that indicates how the Moon (emotional and public disposition, and female energies) manifests on Soong's Sun axis (vitality and central purpose) -- thus a very key midpoint configuration in his chart.  The Brummund Rulebook interprets this combination as:

JU.AP.VU (from Brummund Rulebook)

* lucky - contented - active - enterprising - venturesome - open-minded - quick-witted - keenly observant - experienced with money - generous - has business acumen - self-confident - conscious of fairness - seeks to excel - competent at commerce or academics -- arbitrary - unlawful - domineering - autocratic - extravagant - wasteful - overbearing

* Extraordinary good luck - Many successful activities - Satisfaction relating to increases and work - Experience with major financial transactions - Major earnings - Rapid increases relating to profits - Work in economics - Athletic notoriety - Actions relating to financial gains - Increase of influence relating to money - Successful efforts relating to peace - Fights relating to freedom and justice

These interpretations alone indicate much of what we know about the life of T V Soong.  Such clear and central descriptions were not always yielded by any systematic methodology in the early stages of Uranian Astrology.  However, since the methods have been refined and developed by Ludwig Rudolph, and later, Ruth Brummund, we begin to find key midpoint factors readily, sorting them out from the plethora of techniques used historically in Hamburg School analyses.
